Aloha Monster Hawaiian Bonefish |
Hawaiian bonefish are monsters compared to other fisheries for the same species. Just like Hawaii is famous for its GRANDER marlin, these behemoth bonefish come in world record sizes. Knowing when and where to hunt these beautiful fish is 90% of the battle. We specialize in putting our clients in the zone for that shot at the bonefish of a lifetime. Our guides can help you get your casts straight and long, but once you hook that big boy, your on your own to get dragged across the flat like a rag doll. Hold your tip up high and prey it stops before all your gelspum backing is gone. 150yd runs are commonplace with the average bonefish coming in at 8lbs and slobs of over 15lbs are possible if you have the stamina to survive an epic battle.
Meeting people and helping them achieve a dream is what makes my job so rewarding. That high five after landing a fish and the smiles I get are priceless. There are slow times on the bonefish flats between tides so bring a good story and a good cigar to round off a day to remember. An Average day we will see anywhere from 40-100 fish with up to 30 good shots at hooking a trophy bonefish. Accurate casting is more important than the long range bomb casts, so practice a bit before you come across the ocean to try your luck. This will make your experience more enjoyable and successful. 7# - 10# set ups are perfect with the 7# loaded with a floating line for the "tailing fish", and the 9/10# with a floating line for those windy moments. We typically use a tapered 50#-20# leader-9ft with a 10-20# tippet-3ft to help make a smooth rollover presentation. I would love to put you on some of my off the beaten path spots with my flats boat, so give me a call and lets make some fishing memories and more good stories. Don't worry if your not practiced up on your casting, I am always glad to teach technique for our conditions to make it an enjoyable experience. And for those anglers traveling to Christmas Island(Kiritimati) your one day stop in Hawaii can be filled with targeting some big bones to warm up your cast.
